Did you notice the verbs in the past tense in the article ‘Now News’ on pages 10-11 of English Now No 74? The article has regular and irregular verbs. Try these exercises to test your grammar.

1. It is fashionable not to eat meat

Type the infinitive form of the past tense verb in parenthesis.
  1. The first vegan food festival took (to ) place in Toronto, Canada, on June 11th.
  2. Vegans spoke (to ) about why they don’t eat meat.
  3. Visitors could () try new vegan recipes.

2. Eating yoghurt helps to fight diabetes

Type the past form of the present tense verb in parenthesis.

3. California – the Golden State

Choose the correct verb in parenthesis. Then, fill in the blanks with the past form of this verb.
