Read the article ‘Words, Words’ about the English words from the Caribbean, on pages 18-19 of English Now No 97. You’ll notice that many verbs are in the passive voice. Read this short lesson about the passive form, and then, try to do the exercises below.
The passive form
The passive in English is used when
• When the doer of the action is unknown or unimportant.
• to put emphasis on the action rather than who did it.
It is formed in the following way:
