Beware the crow!

Niveau A2 (débutant)

Crows are very intelligent birds. But they are also animals who act on instinct. Combine their intelligence and their instinct and you may have a problem. What type of problem? Crow attacks!

That’s right, crows attack people. But they don’t attack for no reason. Crows will attack if you:

 - threaten their nest or chicks   

 - are in their territory

 - tried to harm them before

 

Crows can remember a human face. And they can communicate information about you to other crows. Even though they are not as strong as humans, a crow won’t back down if you attack them. They’ll fight back!

What should you do if a crow attacks you? Experts say you can use an umbrella to cover your head and face, run away from the area quickly because there may be chicks nearby or throw food on the floor to distract the crow. But prevention is better than cure, so it’s a good idea to scare crows away from your garden before they attack you. How?

Contrary to what people think, crows are too intelligent to be afraid of a scarecrow. That’s funny because look at that word! It’s scare + crow = scare a crow. In fact, crows are scared of shiny objects. So, if you have a crow problem in your garden, hang old CDs from the trees. When sunshine reflects off a CD, crows fly away.

Here’s a fun fact: a group of crows is called a murder of crows! Does this mean that crows can kill you? No. Crows can’t kill a human, but they can scratch and peck you. Remember that they won’t attack you for no reason, so if you don’t want a problem with crows, respect them, and they will respect you.
