On November 3rd 2026, it will be time for the Americans to vote again. Already? That’s right—it's the midterm election, and it could change a lot for President Trump!

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are open for election, as well as 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate. Together, these two chambers make up Congress, where national laws are made. Some states will also choose a new governor. So, keep your eye on California, Florida, Georgia and Michigan.

Right now, Trump's Republicans control both chambers, but only by a small margin. If the Democrats win just one chamber, it will be difficult for Trump to pass his laws. Also, if the Democrats have one–or both–chambers, they can investigate Trump’s government. The word on the street is that the Democrats may even try to impeach him!

What will voters be thinking about when they vote? Mostly money. Prices for fuel, food, housing and healthcare are currently high, and inflation is above the official target, partly because of Trump’s war with Iran. But Democrats also blame Trump's tariffs. Immigration is another big topic for voters. Republicans are proud of Trump’s tougher border controls, but many people think his crackdown has gone too far. Recently, artificial intelligence has joined the list of voters’ concerns. Politicians from both the Republican and Democratic party want rules to guide its development, but Trump doesn’t agree.

In the past, voters, unhappy with the ongoing campaign and policy of the current president, voted against his party. As Trump's approval rating has fallen from just over 50% to about 37%, it’s not looking good for the Republicans. But as the common expression states: Nothing is certain but death and taxes!

Trump’s name isn't on the ballot, but he has asked people to pretend that it is, telling them to vote for him if they are happy with his campaign so far. As he can’t run for presidency a third time, the midterms will give the world an idea of who the Republican party will present as their next presidential candidate.

What are your predictions for the midterms—will the Republicans or the Democrats win?
