The mid-term election is held at the halfway mark of a president’s ter. Both the Democrats (the more liberal, left-wing side) and Republicans (the more conservative, right-wing side) had hopes and expectations for the results of the November 6th mid-term election. The Democrats wanted to sweep the House of Representatives to try and neutralize Trump. The Republicans wanted to sweep the House in order to prove that Trump’s election was legitimate. It’s safe to say that neither party got exactly what they wanted, and as of this post, it could be weeks until we know the final, exact numbers.
A short guide to the two houses of Congress:
The Senate (6-year term, 2/state, total of 100, only 1/3 up for this year’s election)
The House (2-year term, 435, #/state based on population, all up for re-election this year)
Amazing firsts – mostly where women are concerned:
* First Muslim women elected
* First African-American woman elected from Massachusetts, defeating a 10-time incumbent
* Most women ever in congress – a total of at least 100
* Youngest congresswoman ever – age 29 from New York City
