The trifle is a British dessert made from custard, fruit, sponge cake, jam and whipped cream.
The ingredients are arranged in layers and served in glass bowls.
This famous dessert evolved into the delicious layered dessert we know today.
- 2 cold sponge cakes
- 3 cups vanilla custard
- 3/4 cup raspberry jam
- 2 cups sliced berries
- 3/4 cup whipping cream
- 3 teaspoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Cut the cakes into large cubes. Arrange half of the cubes in the bottom of a large, glass serving bowl. Drizzle with 1/2 of the jam. Sprinkle with half of the berries. Spread with half the custard.
Repeat these layers until you have used all the cake, jam, berries and custard.
Combine the cream, sugar and vanilla and whip it until nearly stiff. Spread this mixture on top of the trifle.
